My compadre Leeroy, along with his somewhat more human pal Lance, have renewed 100 Word Song activities with none other than the Fab Four and "Revolution". My entry is called "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised".
"The Revolution Will Not Be Televised,
He told us when the Sixties died."
I stared at the words, cold and lifeless. I stole them from a dead man, recorded before my birth, forecasting a world we're still waiting for. I tried to feel his fervor, the certainty that rebels have that the force of their rightness will win out.
My parents tried to change the world, then got fat and moved to the suburbs. It's hard to imagine that they really meant it way back then, young people still naive enough to believe that the world can change.
i still believe it, for the record.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Marian... not only do I believe it can change, it is mandatory. Change is part of the structure, it is the unwillingness, or inability to adapt which breeds extinction in a culture, clan, or creature.
ReplyDeleteNice line: "My parents tried to change the world, then got fat and moved to the suburbs." That says a mouthful in and of itself!
I'm old, fat, tired..but pen wielder...I DO believe! Actually...I've made it my personal mission now that I have maturity to offset the discrimination our young one so often encounter. Long live the rose colored glasses and the fact that we can toss the stone that makes the ripple that moves the change...oh...I think this was a freaking fantastic play to the prompt :)
ReplyDeleteOh, we all believe it when we are younger. Then LIFE gets in the way of our fervor. We got older, hopefully a tad wiser, but perhaps less activated/motivated.
ReplyDeleteChange is what we do - hopefully we change the world around us. I'm 62 now - working in the world of domestic violence education for the past several years. Hopefully I am affecting change, at least in my small community.
Well done on the prompt.
I still believe in the ability to make change. And my grandkids? Make it mandatory that I believe.
ReplyDeleteNice take on the prompt, it has its truth.
Everyday there is change. Some of it subtle, practically unnoticeable :) perhaps someday the small insignificant ones will. Jill into the revolution the world so desperately needs
ReplyDeleteI must be the only pessimist playing 100 Words, because I don't believe the world will change. I have seen too much evidence that things have been the same in our country since BEFORE we were a country.
ReplyDeleteCripes, maybe I'm just a grumpy old man already.
My Dad is still trying to change the world. Mom is content to change her little corner of it. And I'm a hopeless revolutionary.
ReplyDeleteThat's the trick - you have to revolt before you get fat. And those who would wish you not to revolt keep shoving food down your throat.
ReplyDeleteI think every generation has their lofty ideals and expectations. One of these days they will be realized... I hope.
