Velvet Verbosity's 100 Word Challenge is long off the tee, has a very strong short game, and can putt like nobody's business. The word this week is "gratuitous", and my story is called "Blind Date". As always, feel free to complete the challenge on your own blog and plug your link in right here:
And now, "Blind Date":
She was beautiful- long showers of black hair that shimmered when she moved her head, wide brown eyes that focused on you with a pleasurable warmth, and a body that suited a cocktail dress perfectly. I finally thought my pal Eric had sent me on a blind date with a winner when she said, as we got up to leave the restaurant, "Aren't you going to leave a gratuitous?"
I looked at her blankly.
"You know, a tip?"
"Thanks for reminding me," I said affably, sliding two tens onto the table. Looks aren't everything, I thought, chuckling silently.
My wife and I laughed. I've been on a date or three like that too. BTW, leavuing two tens, that should get you the waitresses hand on marriage.
ReplyDeleteAre you in a contest with LouCeel to come up with the most creative description of Velvet Verbosity? You two. Always makes me smile.
ReplyDeleteGreat piece. Had a similar experience, though it wasn't a blind date. Still, the guy was practically perfect by all appearances, but his grasp of vocabulary? Not so much.
Hey!!! I think I know this woman. :)
ReplyDeletethanks for the giggle. (and I agree with Lance about the size of that tip)
Thank you all.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that you bring up the tip. It was originally two fives, but my thinking was that a place that would require a cocktail dress would be more expensive, hence the two tens.
Haha! I've had experiences like this, too, but at least the memories make me laugh. Thanks for the fun post.
ReplyDeleteThis guy was too rich to have needed a blind date! :) I liked that he didn't roll his eyes but thought it humorous. Fun stuff...comedy always makes me laugh! (!)
ReplyDeleteHAHAHAHA!!! Touche'!
ReplyDeleteThat is hilarious! Nice place for a first date, and a blind date at that. Good thing the guy was amused and not condescending to his date.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the smile this morning! Very creative use of the word.
ReplyDeleteGratuitous, indeed! Haha. First time here, stumbled upon your blog through Indie Ink. Glad I did! Love this 100 word challenge thing. Maybe I'll start participating. :)
