100 Word Challenge: Year End Review

Velvet Verbosity's 100 Word Challenge would have made the Final Four easily, if not for those pesky rules about having to be a college basketball team. This week's word is "Voice" and my story is called "Year End Review"

"All your trend lines are down," she said to me in a soft tone, "even your Voice of the Client Feedback, which was always good. Can you tell me what's going on?"

I don't care, I wanted to say. You've pounded me with pointless directives, initiatives to do this, followed immediately by orders to do the opposite. I know my life, and my family's life, depends on remaining in your favor- but I'm finding it difficult to continue to care.

"Gee, boss," I said as sincerely as I could. "I'll try to do better."

  1. So familiar. One thing I don't miss not going into an office, a boss who gives out conflicting directives.

  2. I can just hear the condescending tone in her voice. I've been there as well. Nice little vignette!
