Farewell to Harry the K

Longtime Philadelphia Phillies announcer Harry Kalas died today at the age of 73. Kalas, whose career in Philadelphia began the year I was born, also narrated for NFL Films in his distinct, even voice.

Baseball, more than any other sport, is a sport you can watch while doing something else, and Kalas' voice was a nice backdrop while you engaged in other activities. He will be missed.

  1. He's Outta heeeere...

And I say that with utmost respect and sincerity.... in tribute...

On Action News at 6, Gary Papa, who is continuing health struggles of his own, broke up...made me cry too....

So long Harry the K. Phillies baseball will never be the same....

  2. You can't really say it's shocking, but I guess the suddenness of it is a little shocking.

Spend almost 40 years doing what you love for people who adore you...that's not a bad way to spend a life.
