Jesus Loves Health Reform

Matthew 25: 35-46

[35] For I was hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

[36] Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

[37] Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

[38] When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

[39] Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

[40] And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

[41] Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

[42] For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:

[43] I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.

[44] Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?

[45] Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.

  1. Not sure he'd like it, since its focus is "render unto caesar". Especially the part where it clobbers people without means by forcing them to divert money from food, shelter, education, etc in order to by expensive insurance plans. Especially the part where money is taken to make more and more bureaucrats richer and richer. That's what this is all about, really: another greedy money-grab: the golden rule at work. Those who make the rules getting more gold.

  2. Well, I wish that health care reform included a ceiling on insurance rates. Insurance companies are a huge part of the problem. As soon as they know you are forced to comply, they raise rates through the roof.

I believe that Jesus was the standard for compassion and love. Once a brother-in-law complained to me about how gay people deserve to have AIDS... this a good Christian man. My comment to him was that I believed that Jesus would be the first to hold his hand out in compassion. To my utter amazement, a few days later the same brother-in-law told me that I was right and he was adjusting his thinking.

  3. Ananda: Rates will soar thanks to this reform. There are measures in it to force doctors to raise what they charge, and increase the cost of medical equipment. i.e. this bill forces medical care "sellers" to raise rates through the roof.

The ill-conceived bill was passed in a rush, in the dead of night, full of loopholes and bizarre features. It's really anyone's guess what it will do to health care in America. But based on the past record of things like this, it will make health care more expensive than ever, and fewer will end up having it.
