I listened to TWIT (This Week In Tech) just in time. Audible is giving away audiobooks for free today, but only until midnight tonight. The choices weren't overwhelming, but hey, it's free.
I chose a book about philosophy by two guys I've never heard of.
TWIT also mentioned "Bringing Down the House", which was a book I adored, soon to be a movie starring Kevin Spacey about a group of kids that counted cards in Vegas. Very interesting.
A guy told me once he was trying to kill a few minutes waiting for his wife at a casino playing blackjack. She came up to tell him he was ready, so he decided to throw his few remaining chips on the last hand, rather than go to the trouble of cashing them in. They wouldn't let him, though, apparently afraid he was counting cards.
Interesting that, in what is avowedly a customer focused world, casinos can and do treat people shabbily if they choose to. Obviously, they rarely do.
Is it wrong to be looking forward to a weekend trip 3 weeks from now because I'll get to be by myself from Friday until late Sunday night?
M,
ReplyDeleteI don't think so. I require a lot of alone time and I always have. I think sometimes it's just who you are! A psych professor once explained the introvert/extrovert idea this way (which I thought was supremely useful for all those mislead people who think introverts HATE people, or something weak like that.) Here's what he said, that an introvert would love the thought of going to an abandoned island by themselves or with one other person, some books, a clock to count the hours alone, while an extrovert would love to go to an island with lots of people so that he could talk to everyone. The professor was an extrovert and he said he could only stay in his office for maybe an hour before he had to get out to talk to people. He asked us to choose which one we were and then place ourselves in the opposite personality's perfect situation and see how horrible it sounded. It was a great way for me to understand extrovert's better, and to take the stigma from being an introvert at the same time. So, yes! look forward to your trip.
Thank you.
