If you have studied any psychology or sociology, you heard about the Kitty Genovese effect-a woman named Kitty Genovese, murdered in early 1964 while her neighbors looked on. The theory goes that people are reluctant to get involved because everyone assumes someone else will get involved, and people don't want to be bothered.
