From the bottom of my heart, this kind of violence is never acceptable. When has an angry mob ever been the solution? And if there are times when an angry mob is okay, who is the judge of when: You? Me? The guy next door? We are a nation of laws. Don't forget it, or ever wish it away.
I take it seriously. Did you see last week's Newsweek? It centered on the current trend of populist rage. Scary times when buses of angry people are "touring" AIG executive mansions. People get angry enough, read enough stuff like this, suddenly they feel justified in violence. Nope, not okay. Not cool. Don't put me in charge of any mobs. I read Lord of the Flies. Besides, I'm a lover, not a fighter.
I agree about violence or anger on both sides. I'm pretty fiscally conservative, but can't abide talk radio. No one wants to get shouted at. Half the time I want to yell, "I agree with you! Stop yelling at me to agree with you harder."
I've got some fight in me alright; you just catch more flies with honey.
Honestly, I'm much more about the conversation. I want to hear a thoughtful point of view and express mine. I'm civilized; old-fashioned. What the hell am I doing blogging? I should be, like, writing a letter with a plume.

ReplyDeleteIndeed.
ReplyDeleteI don't take this sort of thing very seriously, just a hyperbolic way of blowing off steam.
Though I think I would be okay if you were the Lynch Mob Judge-you were always pretty level headed.
:-)

ReplyDeleteYou're probably right. I don't like it when right wingers fly off of the proverbial handle, I should feel the same way when the other side does.
ReplyDeletePoint taken.
I've always thought you had some fight in you, though, when the cause was right.
Fortunately, it was just never directed at me.
Yet.

ReplyDeleteConversing with you is a pleasure, as it always has been.
I was confident you had fight in you-to my everlasting regret, I cannot testify to your status as a lover.
