I remember Carlin's seriuous rants about conspiracies of control. It was too much like the Bildeburger malarky that no intelligent person can believe in. He was a lot better at being funny than being serious.
As he got older, he wasn't so funny, at times, either.
Do I believe there's a wood paneled conference room somewhere where the world's bankers get together to plan their world domination? No, of course not. Remember what Franklin taught us: Three can keep a secret, if two are dead.
But it sure SEEMS that way sometimes.
People sometimes ask me if I really think America will ever engage in health reform, and I usually say no, not because it's not a good idea, but because there are many, many corporations who are doing quite well with the system exactly the way it is.
Carlin's views on education are similar to that-perhaps the reason why we continue to struggle with education is that there are powerful interests who really have no interest in Americans getting smarter, because they're doing quite well ruling over the idiots.
You can say, well, you make your own luck, you make your own fortune, you make your own way in the world. And that's true. But it sure looks like the playing field is tilted, and not in our favor.
That does seem tinfoilhatty, but that's how it looks.
