  2. Good question.

I guess I was just trying to make the distinction. I believe people, even rich people, should be paid for their work.

  3. How do you pay the rich people, for, say "illegal" downloads of concerts and albums that are no longer in print or distributed through the tiny narrow "authorized" channels?

  4. Oh, I'm completely with you on that.

I applauded loudly when Metallica started their website before the new album came out, where they were leaving live concerts from their archives for fans to download.

It is clear to anyone with half a brain that the wave of the future is giving away (or nearly giving away) recordings and making money on tour.

I, for one, a long with a lot of other obsessive fans, would happily pay Billy Joel $10 for a concert recording from his archives-I'm sure the same is true of a lot of groups.

There is an argument to be made that the artist has a right to control what they have available for public consumption. I'm not sure if I buy it, but you can make the argument.

But ITunes and Amazon MP3s proves that there is a market for legal music downloads. Just don't treat your customers like children, and they'll shower you with riches. Relatively speaking.

Amazon more than iTunes. The iTunes files, last time I checked, were non-standard, crippled, and did not play on a variety of equipment.

    I agree with your points.
