I remember when I was a little kid he did a public service announcement about blasting caps that entranced me... because it was really Willy Mays. The older we get, the smaller our heroes. Willie was big, big.
My uncle Carl Branum played for the Senators (minors)back in the 40s. He was a catcher. Uncle Punk... as we called him... got to catch while The Babe batted in a fund raiser game that if memory serves me correctly, was an army vs navy deal. The family has a fabulous photo of Uncle Punk squatting behind Babe Ruth.
I will see if I can do that for you. I'd love to share it. I've shown others who are... yawn... not much impressed. I had a feeling you would understand. Big grin.
Love it! Happy Birthday Say Hey!

I always think, too, about the Charlie Brown strip where he is asked to spell "maze" and he spells it "M...A...Y...S".
ReplyDeleteOh I love that!

ReplyDeleteThat is a PRECIOUS thing. If you can ever scan that and get it online, I'd love to see it.
