Is Petraeus Naive?

Interesting piece by Fred Kaplan about General Petraeus' view that we should negotiate with our enemies in the world.

But I thought that was being naive? That's what Sarah Palin says.

    I do though wonder how you negotiate with a country such as Iran, which has as its goal of wiping out a nation of several million. Negotiate and let them kill off one-quarter, and everyone is satisfied?

    Well, of course-you've got a big fat point there.

    I just disagree with rejecting the notion out of hand, as if there were no possible conditions under which we would talk with them.
