Rob Neyer was right (again!)

http://bit.ly/12Qnw9

Rob Neyer posted on Facebook that, if President Obama has time to read this, so do we. He's right. A well written, long article by surgeon Atul Gawande about health care reform. It sounds boring, but it really isn't.

  1. Wow. What an interesting article. Thanks for sharing it. I had no idea how all this worked.

I wonder though, isn't part of this our own fault? We tend to trust the doctor and do as we are told without asking enough questions.

  2. It's not our fault for getting sick, of course.

Asking questions is great-the problem is twofold-you may not like the answer ("I don't know if this is going to work") or there may not be an answer ("Nobody really knows if this is going to work.")

  3. You are right about that. I was just thinking of all the times that my doctor has ordered this or that and I just do it.

Once I had blood tests for a skin condition. When I went to the lab, one of the techs told me that one of the tests they were doing was for syphilis! I never bothered to ask him what syph had to do with my skin, but I should have. Mostly I paid to feel insulted. :< What the heck did he think of me!

I'm sure that there are some skin troubles associated with syphilis. But I knew I didn't have it and I could have been saved some money if someone had bothered to ask me or if I had asked them what they were testing me for. Though I suppose there are those who would rather lie about an STD experience than own up to it. Or maybe too naive to know they have one.

Okay, enough personal crap you never wanted to know and I didn't intend to get into. Geez... You get my point. I think I get yours too now.
